Anacreon was one of the four prefectures that had effectively broken away from central Imperial control, operating with a high degree of autonomy. While other neighboring worlds struggled with the loss of advanced technology, Anacreon aggressively maintained possession of salvaged Imperial battlecruisers and nuclear weapons. The kingdom's leadership believed these assets made them invincible in the local sector. However, their understanding of this technology was superficial; they possessed the hardware but lacked the knowledge to manufacture or repair it. This dependency created a fragile hegemony where military might was entirely contingent on external maintenance, a weakness the Foundation would soon exploit through the creation of a techno-religious hierarchy that controlled access to power.

In Their Own Story

The conflict reached its peak when Prince Regent Wienis and King Lepold I launched a surprise attack against Terminus using a salvaged Imperial battlecruiser. The plan relied on overwhelming force, but it had been anticipated by Mayor Salvor Hardin. Before the ship departed, Hardin's engineers had installed a secret kill switch into the cruiser's reactor system. As the Anacreon fleet prepared to strike, the ship's crew mutinied after their power was cut. The commander, Wienis's own son, was captured and forced to broadcast a surrender message to the planet. Simultaneously, all nuclear power across Anacreon went dark. Facing a revolt from his own people and realizing his forces were helpless, the enraged Wienis attempted to shoot Hardin with an energy blaster, only for the Mayor's personal force field to deflect the shot. Wienis then turned the weapon on himself.
