In Their Own Story

The narrative splits into two parts: first, the Mule's search for the Second Foundation to destroy it. Han Pritcher and Bail Channis are sent out; Channis suspects Tazenda but is revealed by the Mule to be a Second Foundationer with false memories implanted on Rossem. The First Speaker appears, revealing neither planet is the true location, then forces the Mule into despair before altering his mind to live as a peaceful despot. Sixty years later, in Part II, Dr. Darell and a secret cabal hunt the group. Homir Munn searches Kalgan while Arcadia, Darell's daughter, escapes with trader Preem Palver to Trantor. The Foundation defeats Stettin of Kalgan, believing they have found Second Foundationers in Anthor. However, this victory was orchestrated by the First Speaker—revealed to be Preem Palver—to restore the Seldon Plan. Arcadia had been mentally adjusted since birth, and the "defeated" enemies were martyrs meant to mislead the Foundation into believing the threat was gone.
