In Their Own Story

The novel unfolds in two parts. In 'Search by the Mule,' the mutant warlord seeks the Second Foundation to destroy it. His agents, Han Pritcher and Bail Channis, travel to Tazenda, only to discover Rossem is a decoy. The First Speaker reveals that Channis was mentally manipulated into believing he found the location to mislead the Mule. Ultimately, the Mule's fleet is neutralized not by force but by psychological redirection; the First Speaker seizes control of his mind during a moment of despair, forcing him back to Kalgan as a peaceful despot. Sixty years later in 'Search by the Foundation,' a secret cabal within the Foundation seeks to root out the Second Foundation. Dr. Darell’s daughter, Arcadia, escapes to Trantor with Preem Palver, providing intel that leads the Foundation to believe they have eliminated their enemy. However, this victory was orchestrated by the Second Foundation itself. Anthor and his comrades were martyrs planted to mislead the First Foundation, while Arcadia had been mentally adjusted since birth. The true location is revealed as Trantor, with Preem Palver serving as the First Speaker.
